Elke zong eerder dan ze praatte. Na het avondeten liep ze consequent naar de boekenkast in het hoekje bij het bureau en toverde ze haar favoriete liedjesboeken tevoorschijn. Zo kroop ze bij haar moeder op schoot, die op haar beurt enkel de bladzijden hoefde om te slaan, zodat haar dochter aan de hand van het plaatje precies wist welk liedje er kwam en luidkeels de eerste noten van 'in Holland staat een huis' door de kamer schalde. Het was dan ook geen verrassing dat ze, na de blokfluitlessen, haar eerste gitaar, vele cultuurevenementen op de middelbare school en een groot misverstand dat leidde tot een communicatiediploma, ging studeren aan de Koningstheateracademie in Den Bosch waar ze in 2014 vol lof afstudeerde.
In 2015 behaalde ze de finale van het Amsterdams Kleinkunstfestival en werd bestempeld als een 'Jaloersmakend talent'. Het Parool schreef over haar:
"Haar liedjes bevatten prachtige, haast literaire teksten. Blauwdruk, waarin ze zingt over een beknellend gezinsleven en het zichzelf losweken van haar ouders, is waarschijnlijk het mooiste wat het Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival dit jaar te bieden had." Van 2016 tot en met 2018 speelde ze haar ode aan Maarten van Roozendaal - Om te janken zo mooi - die in verschillende recensies werd bekroond met vier sterren. Na deze bijzondere tour, onder de liefdevolle en gevoelige muzikale begeleiding van Michiel Wetzer aan de vleugel, maakte ze ZONDER GENADE, haar eerste avondvullende voorstelling vol eigen werk. Schurend en bol van de bijtende noodzaak.
Op voordracht van de VSCD jury van de cabaretprijzen, is het STIJGEND APPLAUS STIPENDIUM 2019 toegewezen aan Elke en haar komende productie; LUCHT. Een diepgaand, bloedeerlijk, donker en opzwepend muzikaal programma waarin geen muziekstijl wordt geschuwd; van duistere elektronica, tot een country-western achtige vibe, dan weer alleen een vunzige donkere bas, afgewisseld door een bloedmooi verstild theaterlied; een zoektocht naar de uithoeken van het Nederlandse lied en alle emoties die daarbij horen, zonder concessies te doen aan de kaders van de kleinkunst.
Elke is dit jaar de winnaar van de kleinkunstprijs van de Vereniging van Schouwburg en Concertzaal Directeuren (VSCD) .
Elke sang before she spoke. After dinner, she consistently walked over to the bookcase in the corner by the desk and pulled out her favorite songbooks. She crawled onto her mother's lap, who in turn only had to turn the pages, so that her daughter knew exactly which song was to be played on the basis of the picture and the first notes of 'there is a house in Holland' loudly the room blared. It was therefore no surprise that, after the recorder lessons, her first guitar, many cultural events at the high school and a great misunderstanding that led to a communication diploma, she went to study at the Koningstheateracademie in Den Bosch, where she graduated with honors in 2014.
In 2015 she reached the final of the Amsterdam Kleinkunstfestival and was labeled a 'Jealous talent'. Het Parool wrote about her:
"Her songs contain beautiful, almost literary lyrics. Blueprint, in which she sings about an oppressive family life and separating herself from her parents, is probably the most beautiful thing this year's Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival had to offer." From 2016 to 2018 she performed her ode to Maarten van Roozendaal - To howl so beautiful - which was awarded four stars in various reviews. After this special tour, under the loving and sensitive musical accompaniment of Michiel Wetzer on the grand piano, she made WITHOUT GRACE, her first full-length performance full of her own work. Abrasive and full of caustic necessity.
On the nomination of the VSCD jury of the cabaret awards, the RISING APPLAUS STIPENDIUM 2019 has been awarded to Elke and her upcoming production; SKY. A profound, very honest, dark and exciting musical program in which no music style is shunned; from dark electronics, to a country-western vibe, then again just a filthy dark bass, interspersed with a stunningly hushed theater song; a search for the corners of Dutch song and all the emotions that go with it, without making concessions to the frameworks of cabaret.
